THE OPTIC NERVE

The optic nerve transmits visual information from the retina to the vision centers of the brain via electrical impulses. It is commonly called the second cranial nerve. The optic nerve conveys the information responsible for the neurological reflexes of light and accommodation. The light reflex is the constriction of both pupils that happens when light is directed into either eye. The accommodation reflex refers to the size adjustment of the lens of the eye that occurs when the eye focuses on near objects.
